I was having a debate with a pupil today about what the greatest film of all time must be! I was hoping that you would all like to share your thoughts. My personal favourite has to be The Shawshank Redemption, but I think no-one can deny that it's a great film! Think the greatest story told is the Star Wars series of films ( mainly the 4,5 and 6 episodes ), Halloween and the original Psycho film are good for a scare, As Good As It Gets is super for a romantic comedy and Rear Window has got to be one of the best Thriller/ detective films ever! DISCUSS!!!!

I think this calls for a great debait and poll. The way it works is this, someone nominates a film or two. Someone must then second it. That film then goes into the options. After say Sunday week the nomination thread is closed. The film titles are divided into twos and a poll set up with the winner each time advancing on till we have a winner. What do you think?

Raza I think you have thought about this far too much! I was just hoping to start a topic witha bit of fun thrown in. You might be taking this a bit too seriously! Oh yes, and that new Zombie film looks far too scarey! They can think now!? Whats that all about? Does that not make them undead? Surely with an IQ like that they either have to be alive, in Mensa or a friend of the LAW if you know what I mean!85%!

The Sound of Music? What about the musical feast that is Seven Brides For Seven Brothers?!!!! A classic tale of Romance, Dancing, Kidnapping and getting away with it by marrying all of the girls you kidnapped! Now that teaches us good morals!

Oh guys a movie thread, YES (as I punch the air). he greatest film of all time is True Roance starring just about everybody who's any way decent in Hollywood. Great story, great acting, great charactors and the coolest geekiest hero ever in Clarence Whirly. A little dark and the cetificate is the wrong side of 18 so most of you shouldn't see it till then but a total classic.

Disagree Doowaa, i thought True Romance was ok, but not brilliant. Look at Psycho, the Birds or Rear Window. All great films as they hang together and stand the test of time. Even Dawn of the Dead, ok not great acting at times but tense and a strong social commentary. It's a Wonderful Life, again some would say smultsy but there's a reason most people have watched it and felt a warm glow. Its told a story that is coherrant and sticks (although why anyone would call a child Zu-Zu is beyond me, were they stoned?). Well anyhoo thats my penny's worth

But true romance is the best work of all the actors involved in it. Brad Pitt is amazin, Patricia Argette looks like she might be able to act a bit, as does Chriatian Slater, who for once doesn't spend the whole movie pretending to be Jack Nicholson. And what About dennis Hopper's speech to walken. You just don't know whats going to happen and where it will go but it takes you a place that disturbs but is still very funny. pure class. I love it.
All the movies you mentioned are great, but surely this thread is more about your best film of all time and not the best film of all time. I don't think there is a best film of all time. Can't be
